Today, December 10, 2025, Nkamira Transit Center came alive with vibrant activities to mark International Human Rights Day.
The event was organized in collaboration with MINEMA, UNHCR, local authorities represented by the Executive Secretary of Kanzenze Sector, and asylum seeker representatives, creating an atmosphere of unity and hope.

The global theme, “Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials,” resonated deeply with the community, emphasizing that basic rights such as safety, dignity, and freedom are not privileges but fundamental necessities for all.

Cultural performances added color and energy to the celebration. Traditional dances such as Ikinyemera, modern dance, and drama pieces conveyed powerful messages about resilience and solidarity. A short play performed by youth groups illustrated the consequences of rights violations and the transformative power of justice and compassion.

MINEMA, UNHCR, and other organizations operating in Nkamira Transit Center also set up information booths to raise awareness about available services and legal assistance, reinforcing the theme that human rights must be safeguarded every day—not just commemorated annually.

The event concluded with a collective pledge from participants to uphold and advocate for human rights within the camp and beyond. Representatives from partner organizations reaffirmed their commitment to supporting asylum seekers in achieving a life of dignity and security.

As the sun set over Nkamira Transit Center, the celebration left a lasting impression: human rights are not abstract ideals but practical essentials that shape the well-being and future of every individual. The day served as a reminder that even in a transit center, hope and humanity must prevail.

Special thanks to the PFR Leadership Team for their timely facilitation and making the day fruitful.
