International Women’s Day 2026 Commemorated in the Refugee Camp
On Monday, 09 March 2026, the refugee community celebrated International Women’s Day under the global theme “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.” The commemoration brought together Congolese refugee women, men, youth, community leaders, MINEMA, Karongi District Administration, UNHCR, partners, and other humanitarian actors.
The event aimed to strengthen awareness on women’s rights, gender equality, and collective action against gender‑based violence and discrimination. The program featured:
- Speeches from community and institutional representatives
- Testimonies from refugee women
- Cultural performances
- Dialogue sessions focused on leadership, peacebuilding, and community development
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the protection, respect, and empowerment of women and girls, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration to ensure their rights are fully upheld within the refugee community.
