Mahama Refugee Camp commemorated International Women’s Day with a vibrant community event attended by refugees, humanitarian organizations, and government representatives. The celebration highlighted the vital contributions, leadership, and resilience of women within the camp.
Representatives from MINEMA, UNHCR, Prison Fellowship Rwanda (PFR), Save the Children, Alight, and other partners joined the event. Community members participated through speeches, discussions, and recognition of women who have demonstrated excellence in education, family welfare, entrepreneurship, and community leadership.
The Guest Speaker, the Mahama Sector Executive Secretary, underscored the importance of women’s empowerment and their central role in community wellbeing. In a significant moment, the Executive Secretary facilitated the civil marriage registration of seven families, contributing to legal protection and family stability within the camp.
Partner organizations reaffirmed their commitment to advancing gender equality and supporting initiatives that strengthen women’s protection, participation, and leadership.
The event concluded with messages of appreciation to all women in Mahama Camp for their dedication and contributions, and a call for continued collaboration to promote inclusive development and community resilience.
